Electric power is distributed in Decatur County by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) through the Lexington Electric System.
A 161/69KV primary substation of 100,000 KW capacity and four secondary 69/13KV substations with a combined total capacity of 82,000 KW serves the area.
A 12,000 KW substation is located in the immediate Parsons area.
Natural Gas is distributed in Decatur County by the Parsons Natural Gas System from the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company. The system is supplied through a six-inch high pressure transmission line with an average heat content of 1,032 BTU per cubic foot.
Parsons secures its water from Beech River and utilizes a rapid sand filter plant with a treatment consisting of flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, chlorination and fluoridation. Water storage in Parsons is provided by two elevated tanks holding 1,000,000 gallons. Current consumption is 800,000 gallons per day.
Decaturville secures its water from 9 wells with a capacity of 200,000 GPD. Storage capacity is 500,000. Current consumption is 150,000 GPD.
The Parsons sewage treatment plant is designed to treat up to 800,000 gallons of sewage per day in an aerated lagoon. The maximum daily use of the sewage treatment plant is 400,000 gallons per day. Eighty-five percent of the city is served by sanitation sewers and 10 percent served by storm sewers.
Decaturville sewage treatment is a package plant with oxidation ditches. The current consumption is 50 percent of the capacity.
The other areas of the county are served by the Perryville Utility, North Utility and Scotts Hill-Bath Springs water districts.
Parsons, Decaturville and Scotts Hill fire services are joined by 5 more rural substations to provide county fire protection. The fire class rating for Parsons is 3, Decaturville and Scotts Hill have a class 7 rating.
