The Big Squeeze

Date: July 2, 2021
Time: 8:05 am  to  8:05 pm

It’s almost time for the annual Big Squeeze! Excitement is growing as plans are being made to make this the biggest fund raiser ever for our veterans! Mark your calendar for July 2, 2021.

An “All American Hero” breakfast for all the veterans will kick off the day’s events on Friday, July 2 at 8:00 a.m. at the Decatur County Bank parking lot in Parsons, next to the “Field of Flags”. At 8:30 a.m., a short program to honor the veterans will follow the breakfast.

For the lemonade lovers who follow the lemonade trail and take part in the lemonade crawl, the lemonade stands open at 10 a.m. and will continue until 2:00 p.m. at businesses all around the county. A full list of all the stands will be listed in The News Leader later.

Winners of the stands are decided by the public as they vote for their favorite in two different categories, “Most Patriotic” and “Best Tasting”, and then the third prize goes to the lemonade stand which raises the most money for the veterans’ organization.

Pictures of all the stands will be posted on Facebook with full directions on how to cast your votes for the most patriotic. To vote in the tasting category, you will have to sample the individual lemonade from the individual stands. So pucker up!

A “lemon” scavenger hunt will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Details for this fun event will be published later.

At 6:00 p.m., it’s time to bring out your golf carts, pull-type wagons, bicycles, tricycles, or even strollers and decorate them up in American red, white and blue spirit! Do you know a veteran? If so, invite them to ride along with you and show them how much they are appreciated. The parade will line-up at the Parsons Municipal Park at the old airport at 6 p.m. and the parade will begin at 6:30 through the middle of town and end back up at the Robin’s Nest parking lot to kick off the rest of the night’s fun activities.

At 7:00 p.m., the awards ceremony will be held for the winners of the lemonade stands’ competition and the scavenger hunt.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. the Robin’s Nest parking lot will come alive with the featured entertainment-Radio Daze, one of Nashville’s Favorite Dance Bands. Boasting a 23-piece orchestra and four vocalists, the band features a diverse repertoire that captures the sounds of almost every era of the 20th century, including the swing era of the 1930s and 40s.

Bring your lawn chairs and get ready to swing to “The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, or “The Twist” or maybe even “Mustang Sally”. Maybe you would like the non-stop fun of the 50s pop, the smooth sounds of Motown, or the soul of disco. There will be some type of music that everyone will love.

Full details of all events will be published weekly, so make sure you pick up The News Leader and get ready to enjoy a full day of fun and at the same time honor our veterans!
